Mastersingers plays a key role in the discovery and development of talented young singers, focusing on those that we feel have the potential to succeed in the dramatic vocal Fach, most notably in the great works of Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss and the German romantic masters.
Many young artists with the potential voices for this repertoire need help. Mastersingers can make a real contribution to this development by arranging the appropriate coaching from experts of this vocal type, and by creating performance opportunities to showcase emerging talent.
For many years we have relied on the generosity of patrons to carry on with our work and we are deeply grateful to these wonderful people. We now want to broaden the scope of our activities and assist more singers. We need money to do this and through our new Friends scheme we aim to raise our profile, expand our circle of donors and offer enhanced involvement and enjoyment in our work to sponsors. We would love to have you as part of our team. You will have the chance to be involved in helping the next generation of British Wagner singers to continue this magnificent tradition on the international stage.
In recent years, our alumni have been engaged by some of the leading opera companies in the world, including: The Royal Opera Covent Garden, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Longborough Festival Opera, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Bayreuth Festival, Thèatre des Champs-Elysées Paris and the Metropolitan Opera New York.

Dame Anne Evans
The singing of Wagner’s great music dramas requires particular qualities of vocal line, text, expression, character, stamina, and great discipline throughout. Enabling the continual development of singers able to take on and thrive in this repertoire is the Mastersingers’ mission to which they bring dedication, experience and skill. I am happy to support them in any way I can
Sir John Tomlinson
Our partnership with Mastersingers has underpinned our Wagner productions; we so value their expertise and enthusiasm
Martin and Lizzie Graham, Longborough Festival Opera
The Mastersingers’ support has allowed me to work intensively with world-class coaches. This has changed the way I prepare, the way I sing, my aspirations and the standards I set for myself
The hugely generous support, both financially and musically, found me the best possible mentors. I know whom I can turn to for advice and guidance at any time. Mastersingers recognises that big voices take longer to percolate
Through the Mastersingers’ support and encouragement, a new generation of Wagnerian talent is receiving expert coaching and performance opportunities. I am proud to collaborate and make a contribution to the nurturing of this talent
Anthony Negus, Music Director, Longborough Festival
