It&#8217;s me: listen! Hunding is in a deep sleep; I put a drug in his drink. Use the darkness<br \/>\nto save your life! Let me show you a weapon: if only you could win it! It is destined only for the strongest man and then I would name you the greatest of heroes! Listen closely to what I tell you.His kinsmen gathered here in the hall, invited to Hunding&#8217;s wedding:<br \/>\nhe married a woman, against her will,<br \/>\ngiven as wife to him by robbers.<br \/>\nSadly I sat while they were drinking;<br \/>\na stranger entered the house:<br \/>\nan old man clad all in grey<br \/>\nhis hat hung low down,<br \/>\nand one of his eyes was hidden;<br \/>\nthe other eye flashed and filled them with fear: none of them could face his threatening gaze.<br \/>\non me alone lingered his look with sweet yearning\u00a0regret,<br \/>\nsorrow and solace at the same time.<br \/>\nGlancing at me, he glared at the others, as he swung a sword in his hands, which then he drove into the trunk of the ash tree, buried to the hilt. Es klang so alt, und war doch so neu, wie Vogelsang im s\u00fcssen Mai!<br \/>\nWer ihn h\u00f6rt und wahnbet\u00f6rt<br \/>\ns\u00e4nge dem Vogel nach,<br \/>\ndem br\u00e4cht es Spott und Schmach: &#8211;<br \/>\nLenzes Gebot, die s\u00fcsse Not,<br \/>\ndie legt es ihm in die Brust: &#8211;<br \/>\nnun sang er, wie er musst,<br \/>\nund wie er musst, so konnt er&#8217;s,<br \/>\ndas merkt ich ganz besonders.<br \/>\nDem Vogel, der heut sang,<br \/>\ndem war der Schnabel hold gewachsen; macht er den Meistern bang, gar wohl gefiel er doch Hans Sachsen!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>Das Rheingold scene 4: Wotan<\/strong><\/p>\n<table style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"301\">Evening light shines from the eye of the sun, the fortress blazes brilliantly in its radiant glow.<br \/>\nIn the morning light it gleamed boldly but uninhabited, nobly enticing to me. From morning till evening, with effort and and dread, it was ingloriously won by me.<br \/>\nIt will soon be night\u2026 the fortress provides refuge from the envy of the night. So I salute this citadel,<br \/>\nsafe from fear and anxiety.<br \/>\nFollow me, wife! Live in Valhalla with me!<\/td>\n<td width=\"301\">Abendlich strahlt der Sonne Auge;<br \/>\nin pr\u00e4chtiger Gluth prangt gl\u00e4nzend die Burg.<br \/>\nIn des Morgens Scheine muthig erschimmernd, lag sie herrenlos, hehr verlockend vor mir. Von Morgen bis Abend, in M\u00fch&#8217; und Angst,<br \/>\nnicht wonnig ward sie gewonnen!<br \/>\nEs naht die Nacht: vor ihrem Neid biete sie Bergung nun.<br \/>\nSo gr\u00fc\u00df&#8217; ich die Burg,<br \/>\nsicher vor Bang&#8217; und Grau&#8217;n!<br \/>\nFolge mir, Frau: in Walhall wohne mit mir!<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><strong>G\u00f6tterd\u00e4mmerung Act 1: Waltraute<\/strong><\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" width=\"100%\" cellspacing=\"1\" cellpadding=\"5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\" width=\"50%\">Listen carefully to what I say!<br \/>\nSince Wotan and you were separated, he never sends us into battle any more. Dazed and bewildered we rode nervously into the field;\u00a0Walhall&#8217;s valiant heroes avoid War-father.<br \/>\nAlone on his horse, without peace or rest,\u00a0as Wanderer he swept through the world. When at last he came home, he held his shattered spear in his hand, which a hero had destroyed.<br \/>\nWith silent sign he sent\u00a0Walhall&#8217;s heroes to the forest, to cut down the World Ash Tree.<br \/>\nHe ordered them to to pile up the branches in a huge mound around our blessed hall.<br \/>\nHe summoned the council of Gods and took his place at the head. They assembled in dismay and fear at his word, the hall was filled with ranks of his heroes.<br \/>\nHe sits there, speaks no word,<br \/>\ngravely enthroned in silence.<br \/>\nthe shattered spear held tight in his grasp. He no longer touches\u00a0Holda&#8217;s apples. The gods look on, dumbstruck and fearful. He has sent his ravens out on their journey: if they return with good news, then for the last time the face of our God will smile for ever.<br \/>\nWound round his knees we Valkyries lie but he remains blind to our pleading.
