Mastersingers: Future Events


April 8 & 9  Culture and the Third Reich  Mastersingers in association with the Music Club of London present a weekend symposium at University College, London examining music, science and art in Germany under the Nazis. Lectures, discussions and live performances over two days in the atmospheric setting of the Housman Room.

Presenters include:

Professor Derek Hughes: Wagner: Reputation and Interpretation

Dr. Roger Allen: The Politics of Music or Music as Politics: Wilhelm Furtwängler in the Third Reich

Enrique Sánchez Lansch’s film Das Reichsorchester

A Weimar Cabaret with Stefan Bednarczyk, Mary Carewe and Dale Rapley

Philippa Boyle soprano Michael Bracegirdle tenor & Kelvin Lim piano in a recital of Strauss, Krenek, Korngold and Pfitzner

April 22  Masterclass on Siegfried  Malcolm Rivers leads a session on highlights from Wagner’s music drama with Lee Bisset,  Jonathan Stoughton and Donald Thomson for the Wagner Society of Scotland at 3 Belford Road, Edinburgh EH4 3BL, starting at 19.00. Kelvin Lim accompanies. Tickets £15/£7 available from John Anderton


October 22  Götterdämmerung Act 3  The Rehearsal Orchestra conducted by David Syrus at the Henry Wood Hall, London in the conclusion to Wagner’s epic Ring cycle. Cast as follows:
